Jerel Runyon Purcell, 77, of Flemingsburg, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his residence.
Born in Fleming County on April 13, 1947, his parents were the late Floyd Purcell and the late Nancy Mitchell Purcell.
Jerel was the former Fleming County Sheriff, a former volunteer firefighter, and a former officer of the Flemingsburg Police Department. He attended the Blue Bank Christian Church and previously attended the Battle Run Christian Church.
He is survived by two special cousins, Connie Johnson and Evelyn Harmon; along with several other cousins, family, and friends.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Voiers officiating.
Jerel will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include William “Possum” Flora, Jim Compton, Bill “Worry” Perkins, Marion “Dickie” Flora, Terry Bernard, Larry Stacy, Jarred Flora, and Kenneth Souder. Honorary pallbearers include Brent Fields, Jeff Harmon, Dan Hicks, Billy Sapp, and Jerry Kissick.
Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, Ky. 41041.
