Ogelene Byrd Brooks, 87, of Flemingsburg, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at UK Medical Center. She was the widow of Avery Elwood Brooks.
Born on October 29, 1931, in Frenchburg, she was the daughter of the late Henry Byrd and the late Elizabeth Vancleve Byrd.
Ogelene was a farmer and a homemaker. She worked as a house cleaner and as a cook for the Fleming County Jail. She was a member of Victory Chapel Church in Sharpsburg.
Ogelene is survived by her sons, Roy Brooks, Kenny Brooks and wife Brenda, Donnie Brooks, Mark Brooks and wife Linda; her daughter, Carolyn Sue Pierce; her grandchildren; her great grandchildren; her sister, Geraldine Wells; along with many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her husband Avery and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Avery Elwood Brooks, Jr. and Troy Brooks; her daughter, Phyllis Turner; her son-in-law, Raymond Pierce; and several siblings.
Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 9, at Victory Chapel with Pastor Kevin Miles officiating.
Ogelene will be laid to rest next to her husband in Elizaville Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church located at 5927 Veterans Memorial Highway, Sharpsburg, KY 40374.
A meal will follow upon returning from the cemetery at the church.
