Roberta "Bertie" Howell Prater, 71, of Wallingford, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.  She was the widow of James Lewis "Jim" Prater.

Born in Petersville on April 27, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Louise Clark Howell.

Bertie retired after 20 years of service from U. S. Shoe.  She was a member of the Petersville Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Marty) Purdon; her grandchildren, Jamie Purdon and Jimmy Purdon; her siblings, Arnold (Judy) Howell, Jackie (Loretta) Howell, Judy (Fred) McGinnis, and Connie (Fred) Carpenter; her brother-in-law, Ernest Gerald Prater; and her sister-in-law, Sandra Prater Kimbler.

In addition to her parents and her husband Jim, Bertie was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Lee Howell, Jr., and Joe Howell; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Monroe Prater and Carl Gene Prater.

Service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 24, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.

Bertie will be laid to rest in Double P Family Cemetery in Wallingford.

Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
