William Russell “Bill” Hinton, 85, passed away at his residence, in the house where he was born and lived his entire life, on Friday, March 6, 2026.

Born on May 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Rollie Russell Hinton and the late Anna Calvin “Tad” Mitchell Hinton.

Bill graduated from Fleming County High School in 1958. He proudly and honorably served in the 25th Infantry of the United States Army for two years.

He was a dairy and beef farmer for many years. His passion was farming and he farmed as long as he could, even having an extra step welded on the tractor so he could get on the tractor with his cane or walker to go bush-hog.

Bill always enjoyed playing baseball and basketball and was said to be a very good player.

He was known for rescuing and caring for countless animals over the years.

Bill was kind-hearted and witty. He lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply. He was calm and level-headed with his favorite motto being, “Don’t sweat the small stuff”.

Bill attended Bluebank Christian Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his brothers, James Bruce “J.B.” Hinton and David Hinton; one of his sisters, Barbara Hinton Staten and her husband, Jack Staten; and his special cousin, Bob Brown.

Bill is survived by his brother, Larry (Alice K.) Hinton, Flemingsburg; his two sisters, Sue Hinton McIntyre, Burlington and Judi Hinton, Flemingsburg; his two nieces, Pam Staten Parker, Mt. Juliet, Tenn. and Lisa (Todd) Glascock, Flemingsburg; his two nephews, Bryan McIntyre, Newport Ky. and Kevin (Janet) McIntyre, Crestview Hills, Ky.; his great-niece and three great-nephews; his great-great niece and nephew; and his special cousin, Nan Clark, Morehead. He also leaves behind his dog buddy, Blossom.

Bill will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park with a graveside committal service at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026.

His family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the Saint Claire Hospice team, and his Wednesday sitters for five years – John and Emma Adams and Marsha Hunt. They all took wonderful care of Bill with compassion.
