Brenda Ann Kirkland, 70, of Flemingsburg, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at her residence.

Born in Maysville on February 4, 1954, her father was the late Eugene David Hord and her mother was the late Loraine Kennedy Hord.

Brenda attended Kauffman Beauty School, going on to start her own business, Brenda's Beauty Salon.  She was a member of the Buffalo Trace and Kentucky Hairdressers Association as well as being a member of the Golden Chords and Beta Sigma Phi.   For 20 years she was the cheerleading coordinator for intramural sports, dedicating a great deal of her time to the many kids in the community.  She was a member of The viKarious Society (a non-profit in memory of her late daughter, Kari).   She loved to garden and fish and she loved to cook.  She was a member of the Flemingsburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years and 10 months, Keith Kirkland; her daughter, Katie Kirkland and husband James Finley; her two grandchildren, Corbin and Cohen Thacker; her two siblings, Beverly Cooper and husband Gary, and Johnny Hord and wife Rhonda; her sister-in-law, Kim Hord; special family members, Trevor Kirkland and wife Rachel and their children, Sarah Grace and Zachary;  a special aunt, Marjorie Kennedy; special family friends, Katie Alexander and Jon Stein; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends..

In addition to her mother Loraine and her father Eugene, Brenda was preceded in death by her daughter, Kari Kirkland Thacker; and her brother, David Hord.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Flemingsburg Baptist Church with Pastor Trent Keeton officiating.

Brenda will be laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Trevor Kirkland, Corbin Thacker, Gary Cooper, Patrick Brannen, Johnny Hord, Bret Kirkland, Bradley Hord and Brian Wallingford.  Honorary pallbearers include Jeffrey Wallingford, Trent Pollitt, Robbie Hord, and Bryan Hord.

Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the church located at 1856 Elizaville Road, Flemingsburg, KY 41041.
