Obituary

Carrie Jean Rogers Ginn, 95, of Flemingsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 4, 2025.  She was the widow of Forrest Edward Ginn, Jr.


Born in Flemingsburg on December 12, 1929, Carrie Jean was a daughter of the late Irvin Louis Rogers and the late Nannie Doyle Rogers.


Carrie Jean attended Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and San Diego State University.  With her passion for music, especially voice, she was active in high school choir, trio, and church choir.  She was a former member of the Louisville Symphony Choir and the Louisville Acapella Choir.  She was also a member of the Nazareth Madrigal Singers, Kalamazoo Oratorio Society, and the San Diego Symphony Choir.  She was a physician's assistant and worked in the medical field for several years.  She was a member of the Flemingsburg Christian Church.


Carrie Jean is survived by her daughter, Marcia Rye Benthin of Westlake, Ohio; her six stepchildren, Michael (Jenny) Ginn of Maysville, Margie (Joe) Weber of Maysville, Ann Habenicht of Sedro Woolley, Washington, Ellen (Charles) Shellabarger of Hogansville, Georgia, Elizabeth (Jimmy) Stark of Aspen, Colorado, and Logan Nance of Fort Collins, Colorado.


She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren,  Christopher Rye, Michael (Alicia) Benthin, Ashley Blackwell, Elle Stark, Milo (Hannah) Stark, Gray Nance, Kyra (Marian) Reininger, Tyler Ginn, Tiffany Allison, Jack Habenicht, Kate Habenicht, Hunter Keys, Logan (Tim) Sherwood, and Lauren (Nick) Keys; her  12 great grandchildren, Collin Benthin, Aspen Benthin, Leighton Benthin, Chase Rassi, Laura Biermacher, Aidan Rye, Abbi Allison, Grayson Sherwood, Lillia Sherwood, Mila Sherwood,  Henning Reininger, and Theo Stark.


She is survived by her beloved cousins, Ruth Ann Fielding, Dr. Lee (Ray) Knight, Tom (Rickie) Marshall, Dr. Mitchell (Teresa) Marshall, and Dr. Kenneth (Angie) Marshall.


In addition to her husband Forrest who passed in 2003, her mother Nannie, and her father Irvin, Carrie Jean was preceded in death by her son, William Louis Rye who passed in 1984; her sister, Marjorie Rogers Davis; her son-in-law, Richard Benthin; and her husband, Hal Akard Masengill who passed in 1993.


The funeral service will begin at 12 noon, Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Flemingsburg Christian Church with Pastor Randy Fritz officiating.


Carrie Jean will be laid to rest in Fleming County Cemetery.


Pallbearers include Chris Rye, Michael Benthin, Tyler Ginn, Collin Benthin, Tom Marshall, Tommy Porter, Ray Knight, Dr. Kenneth Marshall, and Tony McGlone.  Honorary pallbearers include Loretta Ramey, Agnes Wagoner, Charlotte Worthington, Krista Lang, Jenna Fields, Hannah Ramey, Holly Ramey, Nancy Rye, Bonnie Porter, Lee Knight, Ruth Ann Fielding, Karen Newsom, Peta Stout, Jerry Stout, Ray Horton, Tiffany Allison, and Sue Peachy.


Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the hour of service at 12 noon, Saturday, at the church located at 201 East Water Street in Flemingsburg.


In place of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Carrie Jean to the Flemingsburg Christian Church  and/or Hospice of Hope .
