Charles Edward "Scoop" Mattox, 62, of Flemingsburg, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at his residence.

Born in Fleming County on April 27, 1963, his father was the late Charles Russell "Chigger" Mattox and his mother was the late Delores Louise Hawkins Mattox.

Charles loved being outdoors from landscaping and gardening to arrowhead hunting, even to just grilling out with family and friends.  His greatest joy was being an investigative reporter for Kentucky News Group and was best known locally published weekly in the Flemingsburg Gazette.

Charles is survived by his wife, Amber Hodge Mattox and his son, Cassidy Michael Mattox and daughter Devin Mattox. He is also survived by three of his siblings, Judy Mattox Bradley, Johnny Mattox, and Kenny Mattox; along with many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his mother Louise and his father Chigger, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Doug Mattox.

Per his wishes, Charles will be cremated with his services being privately cared for by Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.
