Obituary

Christine Rice Gibson, age 73, of Poplar Plains passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Fleming County Hospital with her loving children at her side. She was the widow of James A. Gibson who preceded her in death in 1993. The couple were married on August 14, 1960.

Christine was born December 18, 1942, along with her twin sister Irene Gooding, to the late George Thomas and Hannah Wilson (Storey) Rice.

Christine and her late husband Jim were the owners and operators of Jim and Chris Gibson Grocery in Poplar Plains for 30 years. She was well known for the sandwiches that she made, which fed countless people throughout the years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Prior to her business operation, she was employed by Randall Textron for nearly 20 years.

Christine leaves behind five children to mourn her loss, James A. Gibson, Jr., Lynda Kay Skaggs and husband William; Lisa Grimes and husband Mark; Christi Callahan and husband Joe, and Elizabeth Simmons and husband Paul; grandchildren, Christopher (Cara) Gibson and daughter Alexia; Amanda Gibson; Andrew, Clay and Ethan Skaggs; Skylar Ramey, Sarah Jo Callahan, and Caleb Simmons; step-grandchildren, Jacob Grimes, Heighley Grimes, and Rebekah Denniston; and siblings, Gloria Davis, twin sister Irene Gooding, Lynda Lou Gifford, Freddie Rice, Ruth Ann Allen, Johnny Rice, and Janet Weaver.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Eddie Rice.
