Obituary

David Garr Emmons, 71, of Wallingford, beloved brother, son, uncle, and friend, passed away at his home on Monday, May 18, 2026, surrounded by family.

David was the only son in a big, bustling family, raised in Goddard as the beloved brother to six sisters by his proud parents, Mary Lucy and Drew Emmons. He carried a deep love for Fleming County and his many friends there and elsewhere.

When he was a young man, David caught the travel bug and wanted to see the rest of the country. He and his good friend, Kenneth Russell, hit the road for a big summer tour, driving through nearly all of the 48 lower states. He was awed by the vastness and beauty of the country, but Fleming County was the only place he ever wanted to call home.

David was an extremely hard worker, and in his healthier days was in high demand for working in tobacco, landscaping, and construction. He spent several years as a dedicated foreman at Parker Tobacco Warehouse, and was a valued employee of the NH Stone Company, Grimes Greenhouse, and multiple local farmers.

David had the kindest of hearts. He always wanted to help others and would give the shirt off his back if he thought it would make a difference for someone else. He was a wonderful uncle, and he especially enjoyed sharing tips on gardening and plant care with his nieces and nephews.

David was born December 26, 1954. He was a 1973 graduate of Fleming County High School. He attended the Goddard United Methodist Church for many years. His generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lucy Conn Emmons and Drewey Garr Emmons, one nephew, Jonathan Sam Stanley, and one nephew by marriage, Jamey Hunt. He is survived by his loving sisters, Martha Emmons and husband, Hutch Smith, of Paducah; Mary Emmons Clay and husband, Gary Clay, of Winchester; Sarah Emmons and husband, Tim Wilson, of Lexington; Barbara Emmons and husband, Larry Oney, of Lexington; Naomi Emmons, of Lexington; and Lee Emmons and husband, Uppinder Mehan, of Paducah.

He is also survived by his much beloved nieces and nephews, Stephanie Oney Hunt and children, Jaxon and Lillian of El Paso, TX; Joshua Oney (Yvonne Luu) and children Elwyn, Emilia, and Enzo of San Francisco, CA; Megan Stanley of Denver, CO; Carson Emmons Smith of Baltimore, MD; Chandler Emmons Smith (Jake Miller) of New York, NY; Drew Blandford (Isaac) of Lexington; Eli Noneman of Cincinnati, OH; Carter Noneman of Chicago, IL; and Mary Caroline Noneman of Lexington.

Boone-Nickell Funeral Home of Flemingsburg is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, and a memorial service will be held Friday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Goddard Methodist Church. .

For those who wish to give in David’s memory, the family suggests contributions to the Goddard Cemetery Fund, c/o Bernice Plumber, 1905 Craintown Road, Ewing, KY 41039, in lieu of flowers.
