Obituary

Delmar Eldridge, 93, of Flemingsburg, KY went to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 26, 2017 while at home with Lillian, his wife of nearly 70 years who survives him.


Delmar was born February 19, 1924 at Sharkey in Rowan County, KY to the late Hiram and Bertha Caudill Eldridge. He and Lillian Pearl Newman, the love of his life were married on December 8, 1947.


Other than his wife, Delmar is survived bythe following family members:his daughter Karen and Gene Doyle of Lexington along with their family of Mike, Sherry and Amanda; Lucas, Tera, Macy and Marielle; Emily, Alexa, Miles and Nellyse, and Caroline, Lloyd, Baine and Claire; his son David and Brenda Eldridge of Flemingsburg along with their family of Cathy, Chip,Frederick, Anna and Elizabeth; Caren, Britt, Ella and Audrey; Christa, Steve, Anna, Alexandria and Asher; his daughter Donna and Terry Royse of Hillsboro along with their familyof Tera, Patrick, Lilly, Bennett and Fletcher; Darren, Jill, Brac, Gunner and Jonah; Casey, Laton, Will and Kyle;his son, Tim and Claudette Eldridge of Morehead along with their family of Adam, Tarah, Riley, Reese and Reagan; Aaron, Mikki, Asher and Smith; as well as unborn children and grandchildren that he'll see for the first time in heaven. Delmar is survived byone sister Dorothy Blake of Indianapolis, IN and one brother Vencil Eldridge of Flemingsburg;one brother-in-law Paul Tranbarger of Flemingsburg and one sister-in-law Stella Eldridge of Westchester, OH; as well as other nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family that will miss him dearly.Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dessie (Luther Kegley and Allen) Cate and Sadie Tranbarger; and three brothers, Roy (Lena) Eldridge, Troy Eldridge and Clarence (Helen) Eldridge.


Delmar was a dedicated Christian man with a heart of gold and helpful spirit to serve God, his family, his church as well as friends and his neighbors.


Delmar served first as a deacon and then an elder at Mt Pisgah Christian Church for over 60 years.He also taught Sunday School and led the congregational singing over much of that time.


Delmar sang in a gospel quartet, "The Fleming Four" and he loved music. He loved singing with family and friends and regularly attended Southern Gospel singing events in various parts of the country including winter and spring camp meetings in Seffner Florida and Pigeon Forge TN. Delmar was one of few 90+ year olds that had a faithful Facebook presence and loved staying in touch with friends and family through social media.Even though a severe stroke left one side of his body compromised for several years, Delmar's spirit stayed strong and he never gave up believing he could accomplish anything given a little time and the Lord's strength to help him.


Delmar was a WWII veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946.


Delmar was one of the founders of Eldridge Brothers, Incorporated which began in the 40s as a Goodyear Tire and Gulf Oil gasoline service station. He and his family continued in that business and opened a Chrysler franchised auto dealership in 1964 where he worked until he retired. He enjoyed farming through raising beef cattle and hay as well as a love for using his bulldozer to build ponds and keep the farms cleared.


Funeral services and worship will be held at 2p.m. Saturday April 29, 2017 at Mt Pisgah Christian Church with his Pastors Jim and Jared Deatley officiating along with family participation. Burial will follow at the Fleming County Cemetery in Flemingsburg, KY. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834.Visitation will be held Saturday at Mt. Pisgah Christian Church located at 7855 Bullfork Rd, Morehead, KY from 10 a.m to 2 p.m before the funeral.


Delmar was a Friend of the Gideons International and donations to the Gideon Card Bible Program can be made in lieu of flowers. Cards will be available at the church or the funeral home and donations can be mailed to PO Box 614 Morehead, KY 40351.
