Dorothy McKee Reeves, 95, of Goddard, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Facility.
She was born February 28, 1922, near Muses Mill, to the late John Nelson and Minnie DeAtley McKee.
For a short time Dorothy worked at the Sewing Factory in Flemingsburg. She was an avid gardener, farmer, and an animal lover. A wonderful cook, she was known for her "cooking from scratch" foods, such as blackberry cobblers, fried-apple pies, and chicken and dumplings.
She enjoyed showing her patriotism by displaying her flag on a daily basis. She had a great interest in the preservation of the Goddard Covered Bridge and enjoyed a painting of that bridge at Pioneer Trace in her early days there. She enjoyed telling her grandchildren about her school days, having attended the Poston one room school as well as Goddard School. Since 1988, she was a member of the Goddard United Methodist Church.
Dorothy liked gospel music and would sing with the radio on Sunday mornings. Her favorite song was "Jesus, Hold My Hand".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Reeves in 1960; her parents; her daughter, Bonnie Reeves Boggs; her great grandsons, Weston Clark Reeves, Gideon Seth Reeves, and Asher Arrasmith; her granddaughter-in-law, Julie Reeves; her grandson-in-law, Everett Anderson; her sister, Myrtle Lee; and her brothers, Charlie, Elwood, Harold, Orville, and Edgar McKee.
She is survived by her 8 sons, Woodie (Ginny) Reeves, Sammy (Gale) Reeves, Ernie (Kathy) Reeves, Tommy (Dorothy) Reeves, Larry (Peggy) Reeves, Donnie Reeves, Claudie (Patricia) Reeves, and Danny Reeves; her son-in-law, Gary Boggs; and her brother, Roy McKee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Reeves, Connie Anderson, Earl Reeves, Kim Reeves, Casie (Daniel) Humley, Lacie Reeves Drifmyer , Stephen Reeves, Donnie Reeves, Jr., Danny Reeves, Jr. (Rachel), Woodie Reeves, Donna Allen (Daniel Ginn), April Allen (Randy Arrasmith), Carrie (Jason) Duncan, Jamie Salyer, and Derick Salyer. Her great grandchildren include Josh Anderson (Jennifer), Justin Reeves, Megan (Chris) Ingram, Sapphire Humley, Emerald Humley, Alexia Drifmyer, Lakyn, Klara, Scarlet and Ransom Reeves, Ellie Mae Reeves, Danny Reeves III, Elijah Clark Reeves, David Seth Reeves, Kaylee Allen, Nathaniel Ginn, Ashley, Matthew, Preston, and Blake Everidge, Ethan Duncan, Kegan Duncan, Landon Salyer, Zayden Salyer, Kendall Salyer, and Tavon Salyer. Her great, great grandchildren include James Edward Anderson, Jackson Anderson, Jacob Anderson, and Grayson Ingram. A host of nieces, nieces, and friends also survive her.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, September 8th, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Sammy, Ernie, Tommy, Danny, Larry, Woodie, Jackie Ray, Danny Jr., and Paul Reeves. Honorary pallbearers include her grandchildren, David Emmons, Wayne Staggs and Wayne Conley.
Visitation will be 6 -9 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Goddard Cemetery, (C/O Edward & Bernice Plummer, 1905 Craintown Road, Ewing, Kentucky 41039).
