Obituary

Edna Frances McElfresh, 92, of Flemingsburg, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville.


Born in Mason County on November 26, 1931, her mother was the late Rosa Ford Lykins and her father was the late John F. Lykins.


For 20 years Edna was director of the Licking Valley Adult Day Care. She worked as a cook for Fleming County High School and Highland Christian School.  She also worked as a cashier and in the deli for Lakewood Foodtown and as a cashier for Kroger. She was a member of the Lewisburg Homemakers and started an Alzheimer's support group in Fleming County.   A member of the Mill Creek Christian Church, Edna was an Elder Emeritis, a Sunday school teacher, a Bible school teacher, a Disciples Women's Ministries (DWM) member, Worship Chair Choir member, and a member of the hospital auxiliary.


Edna is survived by her husband of 67 years, William Ewing "Bill" McElfresh; her faithful companion, Star; her daughter, Kim (Wayne) Grannis; her two grandsons, Josh (Alison) Grannis and Jordan Grannis; and her sister, Wilma Kinder.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Bonnie McElfresh, Amanda McElfresh, Barb McElfresh, and Patsy Vice; along with several nieces, nephew, extended family members, and friends.


In addition to her father John and her mother Rosa, Edna was preceded in death by six of her siblings, John Ed Lykins, Doris Vice, Hazel Ward, Helen James, Bill Lykins, and Everett Lykins.


The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Voiers officiating.


Edna will be laid to rest in Wedonia Cemetery.


Pallbearers include Corey Story, Casey Story, Jeff Vice, Doug Vice, Robbie Vice, Allen Childers, Josh Grannis, and Jordan Grannis.  Honorary pallbearers include Jane Kirkland, Mary Jane Cannon, Frances Cannon, Charlotte Ellison, and Ceonia Leet.


Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, Ky. 41041.


In place of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Edna to the Mill Creek Christian Church , the Alzheimer's Support Group (donor's choice), and/or the Hospice of Hope .
