Evelyn Erma Sorrell Emmons, 84, of Flemingsburg, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Evelyn was born January 30, 1930 in Hillsboro, KY to the late Clen and Zettie McRoberts Sorrell.

Evelyn was retired from the Kentucky State Highway District 9 Office as the Administrative Manager after 57 years of service. When Evelyn retired she was the longest working state employee. She was the last living charter member of the Poplar Plains Christian Church where she has attended since the early 1950's. Evelyn was a member of many secretarial and law clubs which she greatly enjoyed.

Evelyn is survived by her grandsons Michael (Hollie) Taylor of Gaithersburg, MD and Ryan (Johnsie) Taylor of Raleigh, N.C.; 5 great-grandchildren Chase, Ainsley, Lily, Ava and Sophia; a nephew, Ronnie Sorrell of Morehead; and a niece, Raye Jean Buff of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Emmons; daughter and son-in-law Brenda Carol and Ronald Taylor; 2 brothers Kenny and Lowell Sorrell; sister Shirley Sorrell.

Funeral services will be Monday October 27, 2014 at 11 AM at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. George Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 - 9 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Tommy Carpenter, Joe Callihan, Randy Stull, Joe Kissick, Ronnie Sorrell, Terry Manning, Barry Manning, Troy Shrout will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Brown, John Keith, Eddie Adams, Bart Bryant, Warren Meadows, Scott Manning and JE Smith.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Poplar Plains Christian Church (C/O Rev George Sloan 309 Harbeson Flemingsburg, KY 41041).
