Obituary

Frank Owen Hinton, 97, of Flemingsburg, passed away Wednesday morning March 12, 2014 at Fleming County Hospital after an extended illness.


Frank was born March 31, 1916 in Plummers Mill to the late Frank Lambert and Ellora E. Helphinstine Hinton.


Frank was a 1934 graduate of the Morehead State Normal School – Breckenridge High School. After high school Frank Owen joined his father in the family business, Frank later saw the need to add feed mills to all the Hinton stores to help serve the area farmers. Frank owned and operated the 4 Hinton Mills stores until his retirement and passed them along to the 3rd and 4th generations to continue the family business. Frank served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp as a Supply Sargent he traveled all over the European Theater. Frank also served as Post Master in Plummers Landing from 1956 until 1993. He was a director with Farmers Home Mutual Insurance for over 40 years. Frank became a Christian at an early age and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was the churches treasurer for many years. He was also a Kentucky Colonel under Governor Paul Patton


Frank was preceded in death by his first wife Maxine Morrison Hinton in January of 1972, his parents, and siblings Eugene Hinton, Eulene Hensley, Ruby Spradling and Golda Miller.


Survivors include his wife Gail Claypool Hinton whom he married August 23, 1974; children Jane (George) Lands, Frank L. "Bud" (Paula) Hinton, Elaine (Donald) Logan, Jenny (Ferman) Perkins and Shane (John) Moran; grandchildren Susan Ellis, Russell Burchett, Matthew (Karina) Hinton, Adam (Melissa) Hinton, Nathan Hinton, Donald L. Logan, Andrew (Amanda) Logan, Jody (Christy) Perkins, Allison (Tim) Manning, Jill (Matthew) Meadows, Taylor Cox and J.W. Cox; 12 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 2 PM Sunday March 16, 2014 at Boone – Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Short officiating. Burial will follow in Goddard Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 9 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
