Gayle Patrick Colgan, 72, of Flemingsburg, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods in Nicholasville.
Born in Maysville on November 7, 1951, his father was the late Charles "Ford" Colgan and his mother was the late Ernestine Fleming Colgan.
Gayle retired from Kroger after 35 years of service at the Morehead location working in floor maintenance and stocking. He started working in the grocery business at Bob's Grocery in Flemingsburg. In his spare time, he maintained a lawncare business. He was a loving husband and Dad, and a kindhearted person. He loved the outdoors, gardening, landscaping, and flowers. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at NASCAR races and the beach.
Gayle is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilynn Claypoole Colgan; his son, Chad Colgan; his sister, Patricia (Charles) Cooper. He is also survived by his three nieces, Melinda Cooper, Angie (Chris) Flynn, and Donna (Bobby) Weaver; his two nephews, Mike (Beth) Cooper and Chuck Cooper; his two brothers-in-law, Millard Claypoole and Terry Earls; along with many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his mother Ernestine and his father Ford, Gayle was preceded in death by his nephew, Daryl Cooper.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.
Gayle will be laid to rest in Fleming County Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Mike Cooper, Danny Lewis, Jimmy Faris, Gary Vinegar, Bobby Weaver, and Eugene Masters. Honorary pallbearers include Ed Klee, John Klee, Millard Claypoole, Terry Earls, and Johnny Colgan.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, Kentucky 41041.
