Obituary

Geneva Hawkins Jennings, 88, of the Craintown community passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Geneva was born August. 27, 1929, near Peeble, in Bath County to the late O. R. and Lucy Rogers Hawkins.

Geneva was a farmer, landowner, housewife and an avid gardener. For many years she persistently began her day traveling around the farms checking on the cattle. She also, was well known for making delicious jam cakes, fried apple pies and cream candy. She and her husband, Ralph, were often seen with their delicacies at Fleming County Court Days.

Geneva loved sharing golden memories of her past school days, especially attending school in Peeble and Elizaville with the long walks she and her sister, Wilma, had to take each day to catch the bus. Neva considered their lengthy journey of walking to Elizaville once a week, on Saturdays, piano lessons with Mrs. Wallingford a great privilege.

She belonged to The First United Methodist Church in Flemingsburg. She delightfully played the piano for her Sunday School Class each Sunday morning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jennings in 2007; her parents, O.R. and Lucy Hawkins; and her sister, Wilma Carpenter.

Geneva is survived by her nephews, Terry (Rita) Carpenter of Flemingsburg, and Tommy (Cheryl) Carpenter of Flemingsburg; great nieces, Heather Caines, Chrystal Carpenter, Taryn Carpenter & Rebecca Atchinson; great nephew, Josh Carpenter; and extended family friends, Jim & Karen Hamilton of Flemingsburg. She leaves behind her devoted companion, "Inky" her pug dog, which brought her lots of joy.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Lambert and Rev. Ben Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.
