Gordon Lee Cowan, 84, of Maysville, KY passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at home after an extended illness.
Gordon was born October 4, 1930 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Charles and Christine Cowan.
Gordon was retired from Brock McVey after 27 years of service; he was also a lifelong farmer and an AI technician in the area. He was a member of Stonelick Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, song leader, and had a ministry at Maysville Extended Care. He proudly served his country as 2nd class petty officer in the US Navy. He was long time member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, a former member of the Orangeburg Lions Club and a KY Colonel.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Gladys DeVaughn Cowan; brother Billy Cowan; brother-in-law Gary DeVaughn and his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 5 years Hettie "Jerri" Cowan; sons Terry (Molly) Cowan of Maysville, Randy McQueary of Maysville and Mark (Margarett) McQueary of Oxford, AL; daughters Tonia (Dean) Hawkins of Hillsboro, KY and Holly (Jimmy) McCartney of Manchester, OH; grandchildren Eric (Cayeann) Cowan of May's Lick, Rachel (Don) Montgomery of Walton, KY, Tracy (Frenando) Badillo of San Antonio, TX, Jessica Burke, Cameron, Kaitlyn and Hannah McQueary, Austin and Damian Campbell, Kasie and Summer McCartney; great grandchildren Eli and Addison Cowan, Luke and Max Montgomery.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Sunday February 1, 2015 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Albert Simmons, Bro. Jack Arrasmith and Bro. Dean Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Wedonia Cemetery with military rites performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834. Visitation will be 12 - 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Hope (909 Kenton Station Dr. Ste B, Maysville, KY 41056).
