Helen Jackson Johnson, 99, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at her residence.  She was the widow of Vernon Johnson.

Born in Ringo's Mills on September 23, 1925, her father was the late Andrew Lewis Jackson and her mother was the late Ina Gladys Newman Jackson.

A 1944 graduate of Fleming County High School, Helen began teaching school that same year.  In 1965 she graduated from Morehead State University.  Helen taught for 36 years including Colfax, McGregor School House, Maxey Flat School House, and Hillsboro.   She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and the Hillsboro Homemakers.

Helen was an animal lover who was never without a canine companion and outside cats.  She donated faithfully to ASPCA and other animal charities.

She is survived by her son, Larry Johnson; her two grandchildren, Rhonda (Ashley) Black and Matthew (Stacey) Klug; her five great grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer) Sutton, Ryan (Ashley) Reed, Ava Klug, Wyatt Klug, and Ryder Klug; her nine great-great grandchildren, Casen, Jayde, Mia, Jaxon, Everleigh, Ansley, Jase, Ella, and Emerson; along with many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and Vernon, her husband of 66 years (married on February 28, 1948 and  who passed in 2014), Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Johnson Price; and her three sisters, Bernice Day, Iolene Rawlings, and Eldiva Barrett.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Hillsboro Christian Church with Bro. Greg Grimes officiating.

Helen will be laid to rest in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers include JT Rawlings, Lee Sutton, Ryan Reed, Todd Johnson, Ashley Black, and Matt Klug. Honorary pallbearers include Harold Dean Sorrell, Ronnie Sorrell, Tommy Joe Sorrell, Norman Harn, Jimmy Denton, Eric Barber, Bill Denton, Harold Humphries, and Betty Humphries.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the church located at 80 Denton Avenue in Hillsboro, Ky. 41041.
