Obituary

Helen Palmer, 96, of Flemingsburg, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at the CareCenter at Kenton Pointe. She was the widow of E. L. "Bud" Palmer.


Born August 28, 1921, in Flemingsburg, she was the daughter of the late David and Minnie Barnes Hopkins.


Along with her husband Bud, Helen was known locally for owning and operating Palmer's Grocery. She was also the oldest living member of Flemingsburg Christian Church.


Helen is survived by her son, Danny (Karen Clark) Palmer; her daughters, Polly Harmon and husband David, Betty Jo (Gary McHugh) McHugh; her precious grandson, Tyler McHugh. Also surviving is special longtime friend, Wanda McHugh.


Helen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Roy Walter Hopkins and infant brother; sisters, Amy Elizabeth Hopkins, Mary Francis Hopkins and Minnie Powell.


Services will be held at Flemingsburg Christian Church on Monday, December 4th beginning at 1p.m., with Dr. William G. Bacon officiating. Burial will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.


Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the hour of the service on Monday at the church.


Pallbearers include Leroy Palmer, Shawn Palmer, Doug Palmer, Gary McHugh, Don Jennings, and Tyler McHugh. Honorary pallbearers include Gayle Hinton, Carolyn Calvert, Diane Spencer, Gracie Spencer, Paul Tranbarger, and Bob Dehart.


Boone-Nickell Funeral Home is caring for Mrs. Palmer's arrangements.
