Homer Hurst Sr., 91, of Wallingford, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at UK Saint Claire Hospital in Morehead. He was the widower of Orpha Hatfield Hurst.
Born in Wallingford on August 11, 1934, Homer was the son of the late Sam Hurst and the late Violet Hickerson Hurst.
He was well known as a lifetime farmer in the area. Baptized in 1935 at the Wallingford Methodist Church, Homer was the longest living male member of the congregation. He loved his church family very much, and was known for his kindness, his smile, and his special sense of humor. He enjoyed special relationships with all of his family, and will be very much missed by all.
Homer is survived by his four children, Judy (Dennis) Crowder, Roger (Judy) Hurst, Homer (Markey) Hurst Jr., and Amanda McCord; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Joyce McCann; along with many extended family members. For the last few years of his life, he enjoyed the company of family friend, Mary Hopper, and her kindness and generosity will forever be appreciated.
In addition to Orpha, his wife of 66 years who passed in 2019; his mother Violet; his father Sam; Homer was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gene Hurst and Donnie Hurst.
The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Patterson and Pastor Ricky Hurst officiating.
Homer will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include Josh McCord, Roger Hurst, Homer Hurst Jr., Dennis Crowder, Michael Celsor, and Matt Baker. Honorary pallbearers include Kelly McRoberts.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street in Flemingsburg.
