James Everett Whisman, 95, of California, Ky. passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Highlandspring of Fort Thomas, Ky.
Born in Fleming County on February 15, 1929, his father was the late Russell Whisman and his mother was the late Carrie Bates Whisman.
James worked as the manager of the cutting and sewing department of Mack Shirt Corp., Shapely, and Leslie Fay in Cincinnati, Ohio until his retirement in 1992. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Italy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Church of God of Flemingsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Daugherty Tillett Whisman; his two children, Rodney (wife Valerie) Whisman of Alexandria and Gary (wife Tina) Whisman of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by two of his siblings, John (wife Carol) Whisman and Alberta Baldridge.
In addition to his mother Carrie and his father Russell, James was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Davis Whisman in 2010; and three of his siblings, Emery Richard "Bud" Whisman, Clayton Whisman, and Marvin Whisman.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. James Ray Hickerson officiating.
James will be laid to rest in Fleming County Cemetery.
W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 will be performing military rites.
Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Thursday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, Ky. 41041.
