James D. Tackett, 68, of Flemingsburg, departed this life Thursday, March 16, 2017, at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.

Born February 2, 1949, in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Jessie Tackett and Virgia Tackett Wheeler.

James had worked in farming, construction and had worked at Greentree Milling. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed very dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rose Thomas Tackett; one stepson, Robert (Justa) Thomas of Ewing; one stepdaughter, Geneva (Trevor) Vice of Ashland; two daughters, Priscilla Barbee of Carlisle and Jessica Toy of Flemingsburg; one brother, Garry ( Gina) Tackett of Hollywood, FL; one sister, Bonnie (Gary) Evans of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends, as well as a very special mother-in-law, Geneva Thomas.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jesse Wheeler, and one brother, Carl Tackett.

Funeral services will begin at 1 PM Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Wesley Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include Steve Hickerson, Elbert Hickerson, June Allen, Robert Thomas, Rodney Thomas & Clarence Thomas. Honorary pallbearers include Brandon Thomas.
