Obituary

Jerry Wayne Fleming, 62, of Flemingsburg, passed away Friday evening, May 13, 2011 at his home after a long illness. He leaves behind his loving wife and caregiver, Bonnie Lou Sellers Fleming. They would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on May 31, 2011. She lived up to her wedding vows, "in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad," until the very end.

Mr. Fleming was the co-founder and owner of the Fleming Shopper and Jerry's Gems Used Cars.

He began his career in the newspaper business as a teenager under the guidance of Mr. Lowell Denton. He worked at the Flemingsburg Gazette until 1983, at which time, he along with his wife Bonnie, Started their own paper, the Fleming Shopper.

His love for buying and selling cars started when he was a young man and never stopped. He was wheeling and dealing until the time of his death. He would sell anything, many times to the surprise of his wife, the vehicle she was driving. He always had a vehicle to sell, and eventually opened his own car dealership, Jerry's Gems, in 1988.

Jerry will always be remembered for his quick wit and everlasting humor. He loved people and was always willing to help anyone in their time of need. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Jerry was born February 9, 1949 in Mason County , the son of the late James Walter Fleming and Elsie Colgan Fleming.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Sammy) Gray and Robin James; five grandchildren Tiffany Lynn Christie, Daniel Wayne Gray, Andrew Samuel Gray, Austin Gerald James, and Kye Timothy James; two sisters, Jacqueline (Robert) Storey of Flemingsburg, and Judy (Bob Doyle) Sapp of Paris; two brothers Jimmy (Grace Ann) Fleming of Flemingsburg, and David (Sandy Cooper) Fleming of Ewing; two uncles, Maurice Colgan and Gene (Wilma) Colgan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends

Jerry was preceded in death by his son - in - law, Timmy James; a brother; Ricky Fleming; and three brothers - in - law, Don Sellers, Jimmy Sellers, and Ricky Sapp.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Wasson, Parkey Thompson, and Father Verne Hogan officiating. Interment will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 PM Tuesday May 17, 2011 at the funeral home.
