Obituary
Jesse "Jay" Wheeler, 80, of Carlisle, departed this life Saturday, October 15, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
Jesse was born April 25, 1936, in Johnson County, Ky., to the late Jesse and Sylvia Taylor Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virgia.
He is survived by 2 sons, James (Rose) Tackett of Flemingsburg, and Garry (Gina) Tackett of Hollywood, Florida; a daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Evans of Carlisle; a very special granddaughter-in-law, Daphne Myers; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Princena Tackett, Mary Dailey (both of Flemingsburg), Lilly Clouse of Paintsville; 1 brother, Troy Wheeler of Paintsville; a special sister-in-law, Kathy Wheeler; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jesse was a retired carpenter but he was so much more than that. He was a loving husband, a devoted dad, teacher, grandfather, friend and so much more. He was very loved and touched the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and deeply loved camping.
Services will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Pastor Gail Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Chris Myers, Steven Evans, Joe Evans, James Clark, Rufus Wheeler, Jr., and Patrick Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers include Joni Pilgrim, Carly Barker, Kimberly Myers, Sarah Myers, Trevor Evans, Shelly King, Priscilla Barbee, Jessica Toy, Natasha Smith, Samantha Briner, Samuel Reynolds III, and T. T. Gum.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the Hospice of the Bluegrass.
