John O. Porter, 68, of Richmond, Va., passed away May 30, 2017, at his home with his family by his side.

John celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary to his bride, Joan, in November of 2016. He retired from Southern States Cooperative as Vice President after 32 years of service. John was a jokester and quick witted. He was a friend to all that he met and he would invite you in for a drink and a cigar as he never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Gray Porter.

John is survived by his wife, Joan Porter; children, Matt Porter and Lisa Nobles (Scott); two sisters, Nancy Greenwell (Joe) of Maysville, KY and Carla Grannis of Flemingsburg; a brother, Bob Porter (Linda) of Lexington, KY; four grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan, Damien and Conner; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday June 17, 2017 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home Flemingsburg, KY. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
