Obituary

John Clarence Price was born January 27, 1956, to the late Eugene Blake Price and Lenore Gidding Price. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Connie Crager Price, with whom he shared 49 years centered on family, community, and service. John passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Growing up in Cowan, Kentucky, John was deeply proud of his Fleming County roots and dedicated his life to serving the people of Fleming County. His commitment to his hometown shaped both his personal and professional life, and he carried that pride with him in all that he did.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his two children, Johna Price Bacon and her husband Jesse, and Richard Bradley Price II and his wife Lauren Tuttle Price; his sister, Elizabeth "Bibbie" Price Emmons and her husband James; and his four beloved grandchildren, Nora Elizabeth Bacon, Piper Morrow Bacon, Richard Bradley "Tripp" Price III, and Mary Blake River Price. He was lovingly known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren, a title that brought him great joy.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his two brothers, Richard Bradley Price and Patrick Eugene Price.

John was a 1974 graduate of Fleming County High School and remained a lifelong and loyal supporter of Fleming County Schools and Fleming County Panther Athletics. For more than 40 years, he served as the clock operator for Fleming County football and basketball games alongside his brother Pat, a role that reflected his deep love for sports, family, and community. In 2007, John was inducted into the 10th region Hall of fame as he helped lead the Panthers to the school's first ever KHSAA Men's Basketball Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1974. He especially cherished watching his children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren participate in sporting events.

In addition to his many roles as a supporter and fan, John coached and mentored countless young people through the Fleming County Little League and the Fleming County Youth Basketball programs. He found great joy in working with kids and especially enjoyed watching them grow, mature, and develop over the years—both as athletes and as individuals. His steady encouragement and example left a lasting impact on generations of Fleming County youth.

A devoted sports fan, John enjoyed attending and watching University of Kentucky Wildcats games, often sharing those moments with family and friends. He was also a longtime fan of the Cincinnati Reds and rarely missed the opportunity to follow the team throughout the season. In quieter moments, John found great enjoyment on the golf course, valuing both the competition of the game and the camaraderie it brought.

John was a 1978 graduate of Morehead State University and a 1981 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. After completing his education, he returned home to Fleming County, where he practiced law with the firm of Suit, McCartney, Price, Price & Ruark for 44 years, until his death. He served as Fleming County Attorney for 28 years and, throughout his career, served the Fleming County Hospital Board, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Western Fleming County Water District, and other public entities. His legal career was marked by integrity, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
