Johnny O. Maxey, 87, passed away November 4, 2013 at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg.
Johnny was born January 7, 1926 in Fleming County to the late C.R. and Beaulah Cooper Maxey.
Johnny was a retired tug boat captain for Ashland Oil after working for the company for 38 years. He was also a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Avanell Wilson Maxey; son John David (Susan) Maxey; daughters, Brenda (Steve) Harn, Mary Jane (Jim) Cooper all of Fleming County, and Sally Rae Mineer of Tollesboro; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister Jewell Claypool of Flemingsburg.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Bobby Maxey, Teddy Maxey and Millard Maxey.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Thursday November 7, 2013 at Hutton Funeral Home with Bro. Harley Sexton Jr. and Pastor Larry Joseph officiating. Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126. Visitation will be 5 - 9 PM Wednesday at the Hutton Funeral Home.
