IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ken
Mitchell
November 24, 1934 – March 21, 2025
Kenneth Vernon "Ken" Mitchell, 93, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Born in Flemingsburg, Kentucky on November 24, 1931, Ken was the son of the late Roy Mitchell and the late Ruby Lee Phelps Mitchell.
A former resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ken and Hazel were married a short time when he was called to serve in the United States Air Force. His lifelong love of Florida began when he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach. After being honorably discharged Ken settled in Dayton, Ohio and began a 20 plus year career in labor relations. In the mid 1980s Ken and Hazel returned to Southwest Florida to retire in the sunshine and no more snow. Ken always had a positive and optimistic attitude for the 15 years he battled with non-curable cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hazel Dunaway Mitchell; his two daughters, Lynn Becker and Karen Culter; his three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Elliott, and Austin; and his four great grandchildren, Becker, Hudson, Sophia, and Lincoln; along with extended family members and friends.
In addition to his mother Ruby and his father Roy, Ken was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lowell Mitchell and Scotty Mitchell; and his son-in-law, Don Becker.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2025, at Flemingsburg Baptist Church with Terry Brown officiating.
Ken will be laid to rest in Elizaville Cemetery.
W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 will be performing military rites.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m., until 10:30 a.m., Friday, when the service begins.
