Kirby Mack Wright, 76, of Maysville, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his residence. He passed from this life into the open arms of God.
Born in Maysville on June 2, 1947, his father was the late Samuel Mack Wright and his mother was the late Lois Breeze Wright. Kirby grew up in Tollesboro, Ky. among a large circle of friends. He attended Tollesboro High School where he played basketball and baseball.
Kirby attended Morehead State University, receiving a Bachelor's degree in History, a Master's degree in Education, and a Rank I certification in Supervision.
Kirby was active in the Tollesboro Christian Church from an early age serving as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Elder, and Board member.
Kirby taught school at Garrison school and Tollesboro High School. He was principal at May's Lick and Orangeburg School. He opened Straub Elementary as principal in 1981 and moved to Mason County High School in 1986.
He was an Instructional Supervisor for three years before he returned to Straub Elementary to finish his career in education.
After a brief attempt at retirement, Kirby returned to serving the children of the community by assuming the role of executive director and founding the Buffalo Trace chapter of CASA, a position he held for years while serving on the state level board of directors.
Kirby never stopped serving his community.
Kirby is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teresa "Terri" Young Wright; his two children, John (wife Cherish) Wright and Matthew (wife Gina) Wright; his four grandchildren, Sam, Hannah (husband Tanner Bowles), Emma, and Luke Wright. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy (husband Gary) Orner.
In addition to his mother Lois and his father Samuel, Kirby was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Mack Wright, Jr.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Tollesboro Christian Church.
Kirby will be privately laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Tollesboro Christian Church located at 3684 West KY 10, Tollesboro, Ky. 41189.
