Obituary

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, we lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong farmer, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and deep love for his family. His name was Larry Dee Smith. Born on June 15, 1947, in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, he lived in Moorefield, Kentucky, where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and the land he cherished.

He shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Linda Sue Livingood Smith. Together, they built a life grounded in love, resilience, and unwavering commitment, creating a home filled with warmth and lasting memories.

He was a proud and loving father to his son, Michael Smith (Cindy), and daughter, Michelle Applegate (Ashley). His greatest joy was his family, and he took immense pride in watching it grow through the generations.

He was a cherished grandfather to Tyler Gardner (Morgan), Kaven Smith, Morgan Watkins, Jerron Watkins, Terri Applegate, and Bobbi Applegate, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his life on the farm, he dedicated 43 years of service to A. O. Smith, retiring in 2010. His strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet strength earned him the respect of coworkers and friends alike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, O. B. Smith and Addie Pearl Smith of Sherburne, Kentucky, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.

A man of simple pleasures and steadfast character, he will be remembered for his deep roots in the farming community, his unwavering dedication to his family, and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the fields he tended, the family he loved, and the lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Donovan officiating.

Larry will be laid to rest in Longview Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Ashley Applegate, Trevor Fuller, Brian Livingood, Marion Livingood, Shane Smith, and Jessie Gordon Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Given Jennings and Roger Livingood.

Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., at Boone-Nickell, located at 150 West Water Street in Flemingsburg.
