Obituary

Leona Newsom Watson, 92, of Plummers Mills, was called home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from her home on Morehead Road.  She was the widow of David Andy "D.A." Watson.

Born on the East Fork of Fox Creek near Muses Mills on May 26, 1932, Leona was the eldest of three children born to the late McKinley Newsom and the late Macil Clark Newsom.

Leona was one who could always be counted on to give maximum effort at whatever task was placed before her.  Her servant's attitude and kind demeanor made her a pleasant addition to any group she was associated with.  She is best known for her years in the Watson Store at the intersection of Morehead Road and Muses Mills Road.  She was a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Dave Watson, Jr.; her grandson, Andy (Dorothy) Watson; her four great grandchildren, Ean Watson, Maddox Earlywine, Talon Earlywine, and Gemma Earlywine.  She is also survived by her sister, Emmaleen Rucker; her two sisters-in-law, Shelby Fannin and Joyce Newsom; her aunt, Rebecca Herbert; and a special caregiver, Patricia Stewart.

In addition to her parents and her husband D.A. who passed in 2018, Leona was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Cheryl Lynn Watson; and her brother, Bud Newsom.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Pastor  Jim Doughton and Sherman Royse officiating.

Leona will be laid to rest in Watson Cemetery located in Sandy Hook.
