Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Browning, 95, of Flemingsburg, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home.

Born in Fleming County, Kentucky on July 1, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Omar Saunders and the late Hazel Saunders.

She was married to Paul Browning, for 50 years until his death in 1996.  They were dairy farmers and active members of the Fleming County community.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Flemingsburg for 70 years, where she taught Sunday School classes.  She was active in Homemaker's Club, a 4-H leader, and a PTA member.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time as a quilter and made numerous items for her children and grandchildren.

Liz operated the first daycare center in Fleming County and built a career as a social worker in the Kentucky Department of Human Services focused on child welfare.  She also worked as a ward clerk at the Fleming County Hospital.  She loved traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed the company of others and laughter came easily to her.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her three daughters, June Finch, Paula (Michael) Gresham, Lynne (Darrell) Saunders; her son, Jimmy (Debbie) Browning; her sister, Ruth Hall; her seven grandchildren, Jason Browning, Julie Finch, Jenny Finch, Clay O'Daniel, Corey O'Daniel, Andrew Saunders, and Derek Saunders; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, KY.

She will be laid to rest at Shannon Cemetery in Mason County.
