Margaret Ann Toncray Burke, 92, of Maysville, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and John Sims on January 20, 2013. Born New Year's Eve in 1920, Mrs. Burke was born in Tollesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of John David and Bessie Toncray. Her first Granddaughter called her, "GaGa" and that is how many loving people called her as well.
A graduate of Maysville High School, Mrs. Burke was active in both the Maysville and Mason County Homemakers, holding offices of President and Treasurer. During tobacco sales, she was employed by Kentucky King Warehouse, where she became known and loved by farmers from several surrounding counties. She was a member of First Christian Church in Maysville. She and her husband, George "Pappy" Burke, to whom she was married for 49 years and who passed away in 1992, bred and raised Pomeranian dogs for many years.
Surviving Mrs. Burke are two daughters, Debbie (John) Sims of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Kay (Bob) Ginter of Wilmington, Ohio, five grandchildren, Kristen (Matt) Snyder of Hanbover, PA., Doug Ginter of Wilmington, Ohio, Stephanie (Michael) Edmond, John (Jenny) Sims Jr., and Holly (John) Dells, all of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; eight great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Bradley, Michaela and Megan Edmond, Sophia, Isabella and Ava Sims and Tyler Dells. Also two sisters, Nell Wilson of Maysville and Mary Elliott of Fredricksburg, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, preceding her in death was a sister, Willena Boggs and a brother, Andrew Toncray. In addition, the healthcare and love was provided for Mrs. Burke by Melissa Shields, Sue Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Elaine Gray, Melissa Hall and Kara Martin over the past few years was instrumental in her comfort and contentment.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 26 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Wasson and Rev. Peter Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Hillcrest Memorial Garden, near Tollesboro. Visitation will be 11-1 the day of the funeral..
