IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marita
Fizer
March 17, 1946 – September 25, 2025
Marita Roby Fizer, age 79, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to her children and their families. Marita's love knew no bounds, and the values she instilled will continue to live on through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was born on March 17, 1946, to the late Fred and Katherine Roby of Nepton, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sammie Fizer; her brother, Fred "Tud" Roby; and her cherished granddaughter, Joy Carol Leet.
Marita lived a life of service and passion. She retired from Fleming County High School after many years of teaching and inspiring her students. Her classroom was more than a place of learning, it was a place where students felt cared for and supported. Many of her former students continued to keep in touch with her long after graduation, a true testament to the lasting impact she made. After retirement, she continued her service by tutoring Fleming County students every Thursday for several years.
Family was always at the heart of Marita's life. She is survived by her three children: Mike and his wife Melissa Ford of Flaherty, Kentucky; Charles and his wife Deanna Ford of Hazard, Kentucky; and Natalie and her husband Mark Leet of Flemingsburg, Kentucky. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren: Dalton Leet, Olivia Leet Johnson, Chloe Leet, Ryan Ford, Makayla Ford Bowers, Chase Ford and Andrew Ford. Her precious great-grandchildren include Aaron Johnson, Calvin Leet, Parker Johnson, and Izabel "Izzy" Haney.
Marita is also survived by her brother and sisters: Paul "Butch" Roby, Carol Knowlson, Katherine Warner and Nancy Rye.
Her grandchildren affectionately knew her as "Mimi." They will forever treasure the special "Mimi-isms" she shared during their daily conversations. Her gentle wisdom, unconditional love, and playful spirit brought joy to every moment spent together. Marita also had a deep love for cats, and her home was always filled with the warmth of their companionship.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flemingsburg Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Flemingsburg Baptist Church, with her son, Mike Ford, officiating in honor of his beloved mother.
Marita will be laid to rest in Elizaville Cemetery.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Cannon, Tony McGlone, Brandon Sanders, Jacob Eagan and Jim Wilson.
Marita will be remembered not only by her family but also by her students, friends, and community as a woman who lived her life for others. Her legacy of love, teaching, and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
