Reynolds Markham "Mark" Crain, 83, of Mount Sterling, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Saint Joseph Main in Lexington.
Born in Lexington on April 16, 1941, his father was the late Rev. Owsley S. Crain and his mother was the late Mildred N. Ratliff Crain.
A graduate of Pierceton High School in Pierceton, Ind., Mark went on to attend U.K. where he would play basketball for Adolph Rupp. He graduated from Huntington College in Huntington, Ind., receiving his bachelor's. He then went on to Ball State University, receiving his master's. Finishing up his education at MSU, he received his Rank One. He was a former basketball, track, and baseball coach in Kentucky and Indiana. He finished out his career, teaching biology at Fleming County High School.
He was a member of the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church.
Mark is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith "Judy" Griffin Crain; his three children, Mark Allen and wife Sarah Richardson Crain, Kelley Anne Crain, and Matthew Reynolds Crain. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Morgan Taylor Crain, Shawn Danielle and husband Kerem Crain-Sahin, John Mark Crain, Maci Leigh Crain, Harper Marie Crain, Henley Anne Crain, and Trace Allen Hodges; his three great grandchildren, Collier Markus Crain, Taylor Adeline Crain Duncan, and Ela Jude Shain; along with several extended family members and friends.
In addition to his mother Mildred and his father Owsley, Mark was preceded in death by his two brothers, Charles Milton Crain and Carroll Crain.
The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel H. Burch and Pastor Robbie Shrout officiating.
Mark will be laid to rest in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Bart Rison, Phil Rison, Gene Peterson, Terence Brooks, Darryl Tiery, Mike Jones, and Doug Osborne. Honorary pallbearers include Rick Hord, William Earl Humphries, Lonnie Vice, and Omar Heath.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, at the church located at 117 West Main Street, Flemingsburg, Ky. 41041.
In place of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Mark to the charity of one's choice, supporting youth and/or athletics.
