IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Lucy
Emmons
October 23, 1928 – March 30, 2014
Mary Lucy Conn Emmons, 85, of Goddard, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving children. Mary Lucy was born October 23, 1928, in Flemingsburg, the daughter of the late Martin Luther and Martha Lee Brittain Conn. She was married to Drew Emmons for 48 years until his death in 2001.
Mary Lucy worked at Russell's Variety Store in Flemingsburg for 17 years. She also worked at Grimes Greenhouse and Christian Supply Store. Beyond her employment, Mary Lucy worked tirelessly for her community, spending many years as a 4-H leader and a member of the Licking Valley Area 4-H Council. She twice accompanied a national delegation to the Rock Eagle 4-H Club Center in Eatonton, Georgia and she received the Conrad Feltner and Outstanding Leader Awards for her 4-H service. Mary Lucy was a long-time member of Goddard United Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated leader. She had served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, Vacation Bible School organizer, and youth leader. She was also a member of the Buffalo Trace Aging Advisory Council, the Fleming County Historical Society, and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans, where she previously served as Post Commander. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association when her children were in school at Fox Valley (currently Ward) Elementary. In 1984, Mary Lucy was named Fleming County Citizen of the Year.
Together with her husband, Mary Lucy raised bountiful vegetable gardens, big enough to feed her large family and several neighbors. But she was especially fond of her flower gardens and loved taking bouquets to church.
