Maurice Newman, 86, of Plummers Landing, passed away Saturday November 8, 2014 at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home with his family by his side.

Maurice was born November 4, 1928 in Plummer's Mill to the late Riley and Georgia Nelle Hinton Newman.

Maurice was manager when he retired from Hinton Mills after 47 years of service. He was a longtime farmer and agriculturalist. Maurice was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and had also served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was bestowed with the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel and was a longtime member of the Newman Cemetery Board.

Survivors include his children Nancy (Charles) Gulley of Wallingford, Marsha Helterbrand of Hillsboro and Tim Newman of Flemingsburg; grandchildren Davetta (Robert) Hamilton, April (Ryan) Clausing, Jeff (Angie) Helterbrand, Laura (Michael) Ballard, Riley (Donna) Newman, Jason (Jessi) Gulley and Rita Newman; 14 great Grandchildren; siblings Johnny Ray Newman of Wallingford and Georgia Gillispie of Dayton, OH; sister-in-law Jackie Newman; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maurice was preceded in death by his wife Nina Harris Newman; son Bill Newman; parents; siblings Marie Smith, Geneva Fannin, Catherine Burke, Carrie Staggs and Frank Newman.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Bro. Richard Short officiating, Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8 PM Monday at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home and 7 - 9 AM Tuesday at the funeral home and 11 - 1PM at the church.

Jordan Ballard, Chaz Ballard, Justin Helterbrand, Jeff Helterbrand, Robert Hamilton, Riley Newman, Jason Gulley and Ryan Clausing will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Hinton, Bud Hinton, Sterling Conn, Ferman Perkins, Donnie Logan, George Lands, Kermit Gulley and all employees of Hinton Mills.
