Obituary

Michael A. "Mike" Purdon, 65, of Morehead, passed away at his residence on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Born in Maysville on Oct. 7, 1950, Mike was a son of the late William and Velma Jean Himes Purdon.

Mike received a college degree in Law Enforcement at Eastern Kentucky University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Boone-Nickell Funeral Home for 22 years, Flemingsburg Police Department for 7 years, and was the head of security for Gainesway Horse Farm for 25 years. He was also a volunteer firefighter for Flemingsburg Fire Department. He belonged to the Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge #112. He was baptized at the Johnson Church of God in 2014.

Mike is survived by his wife of 44 years, Julia Ann Cline Purdon; son, Rob Purdon of Morehead; daughters, Kelly Jane Little (Bill) of Tennessee, Connie Allen (Dwight) of Ewing; grandchildren, Brian (Jamie) Allen, Adam (Cathy) Allen, Amber Allen (Derrick), Ashley Mynear (Jason), Will (Katy) Little, and Carey Miller (Ryan); several great grandchildren; brother, J.R. Purdon (Jacki Hughes); sisters, Garnetta Fizer (Danny Lucas) and Linda Sue Purdon (Jim Jones); and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, William D. Purdon.

Services will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. John Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery in Morehead with military rites by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Johnson Church of God, 590 Cranston Road, Morehead, Ky. 40351 or St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, Ky. 40351.

Woody Reeves, John Catron, Brian Boling, Tony Jones, Bob McGinnis and Jerry McCloud will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Connie Nickell, Rayburn Nickell, Donnie Carpenter, Greg Bumgardner and Bob Sayre.
