Otha Lee Thurman, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, died Saturday July 13, 2013.
He was born to the late Oliver Bryan Thurman and Louisa Viola (Rolph) Thurman of Nashtown, Kentucky. In 1975, he married Margie Staggs of Vanceburg, Kentucky, and they lived in the Ewing, Kentucky area until they relocated to Flemingsburg in 2007.
Otha proudly served his country in the United States Army from his enlistment in 1943 until 1957, earning many distinguished awards. He served in combat in the Pacific in World War II and later spent a large portion of his service time in Germany following the war, along with other various postings around the world.
Mr. Thurman is survived by his wife Margie Thurman; two children, Otha Lee Thurman II and Bonnie Reid; and 2 grandchildren, Jason Reid and Nicole Nickoson.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer Thurman, Lloyd Thurman, Arvid Thurman, Jennings Thurman, and Thomas Thurman; and 4 sisters, Wanda Ell, Mildred King, Catherine Jackson, and Lillian Rouse.
Funeral services will be at 1PM Wednesday July 17, 2013 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burtonville Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 AM - PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834.
