Patricia Opal "Peach" Compton Newsom, 86, of Muses Mills, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Muses Mills on April 8, 1936, her parents were the late Lloyd Compton and the late Mabel Evans Compton.

Peach was a faithful member of the Muses Mills Christian Church since the age of two weeks old.  She was the church treasurer for 40 years and taught the teenage Sunday school class for many years.

Peach was so proud of the history of the Muses Mills Post Office which was located in the family business, Compton's Grocery.  She came from a long line of Postmasters of the Muses Mills Post Office.  Her mother, Mabel Compton, was Postmaster for 27 years.  Her sister, Barbara Helterbrand, was Postmaster for 20 years.  Peach was the Postmaster for 21 years until the closing of the post office in 2014.

Peach is survived  by the love of her life and husband of 67 years, Eugene Newsom; her son, Steve (Lisa) Newsom of Muses Mills; her three grandchildren, Amber (David) DeAtley of Muses Mills, Allison (Jon) Sutherland of Georgetown, and Tyler Newsom of Muses Mills; her four great grandchildren, Dylan DeAtley, Abigail DeAtley, Arlo Sutherland, and Annaleise Sutherland.  Peach's family was her pride and her joy.

In addition to her parents Lloyd and Mabel, she was preceded in death by her three siblings, Barbara Helterbrand, Gloria Chinn, and Charles Clayton Compton.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the Muses Mills Christian Church with Pastor Doug Reeves officiating.

Peach will be laid to rest in Muses Mill Cemetery.

Pallbearers include David DeAtley, Dylan DeAtley, Tyler Newsom, Jon Sutherland, Jim Compton, and Jack Shields.  Honorary pallbearers include Bill Newsom, Charles Hurst, Donnie Workman, David Cox, and Robert Drake.

Visitation will be 12 noon until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the church located at 3735 Muses Mill Road, Wallingford, Ky.
