Phoebe Mae Arnold, 73, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Fleming County Hospital. She was the widow of Robert Arnold.
Born in Morgan County on February 28, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe Smith and the late Mazie Adkins Smith.
Mae worked 20 years for U. S. Shoe and also worked for Bath Manufacturing. Later in life, she farmed with her son Nelson. She enjoyed being outdoors and landscaping her yard. Spending time with her family, talking on the phone and quilting helped her stay connected with people.
Mae is survived by her son, Nelson Brierley and wife Chastity; her daughter, Bobbie Brierley; her three grandchildren, Cody Brierley, Zach Brierley, and Brandon Ramey; her three-step-grandchildren, Austin Davis, Zoei Wilson, and Jacob Doyle; and her special great-grandchild, Cheyenne Ramey. She is also survived by two of her siblings, Don (Maxine) Smith and Ivory Snelling; her three half-siblings, Alice (Paul) Manning, Peggy Link, and Patty Lou Kelly; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to her husband Robert and her parents Roscoe and Mazie, Mae was preceded in death by five of her siblings, Thelma Smith Snelling, Faye White, Lena Moore, Ruth Sexton, and James Smith.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. James Ray Hickerson officiating.
Mae will be laid to rest in Concord Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Cody Brierley, Zach Brierley, Gary Moore, Larry Moore, Ron Ramey, and Richard Henderson. Honorary pallbearers include Ted Allen Ramey, Austin Davis, Carroll Vice, and Lester Withrow.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, at Boone-Nickell.
