Richard R. Benthin, Age 62, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away October 30, 2015, at Bronson Hospital.
He was born on October 26, 1953 in Kalamazoo, to Robert and Esther (Kiel) Benthin. Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Rick spent forty plus years helping to build the family business, Mulder's Moving and Storage. Rick attended Hope College and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in micro-biology. He was a member of Greenwood Reformed Church serving for many years as a youth leader. He was an accomplished saxophonist and member of the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society; also serving 15 years as president of the local Spina Bifida Association.
On July 27, 1974, Rick married his wife of 41 years, Marcia Rye. Along with his wife and mother, he will be missed by his 2 children, Michael Benthin and Alicia Rodgers of Rogers, AR, and Ashley Blackwell and James Biermacher of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Collin, Laura, and Aspen; brothers, Keith (Cindy) Benthin of Kalamazoo, and Brian Benthin of Three Rivers; mother-in-law, Carrie Jean Ginn of Flemingsburg, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Nov. 4th, at the chapel.
Burial will take place in Flemingsburg, KY, Saturday, Nov. 7th, at 11 am, in the Fleming County Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
