Russell Montgomery went home to be with his Lord and savior on Tuesday March 3, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born in Lewis County on September 2, 1937, Russell was the son of the late Owen and Virginia Montgomery. He lived a life rooted in love, strength, and devotion to his family and God.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Wayne Montgomery and two sisters Ruth Martin and Louise Reeder.

Russell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phyllis Montgomery and four sons Rick Montgomery, Timothy (Debbie) Montgomery, Russell (Teresa) Montgomery, and Robert (Sharon) Montgomery. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Russell was a retired employee of JC Penney Company of 35 years; he also owned several businesses after retiring from JC Penney. Russell loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Victory Assembly of God in Flemingsburg, KY and Happy Gospel Church in Bradenton, FL.

A celebration of Russell’s life will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday March 11, 2026 at Boone Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Joseph officiating.

Russell will be laid to rest in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery

Pallbearers include Rick Montgomery, Tim Montgomery, Robert Montgomery, Josh Montgomery, Dally Doyle, and Rex White. Honorary pallbearers include Rusty Montgomery, Ron Shannon and Harold Montgomery.

Visitation will be 11a.m. until the hour of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street in Flemingsburg.
