Obituary

Norma Ruth Hurst, 72, of Muses Mills, KY, went home to be with Jesus Saturday morning July 21, 2012.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Worth and Rena Stanfield and was born in Lewis County, Ky. November 7, 1939.

She is survived by her husband Charles Hurst who she married November 27, 1957. Their marriage truly was one of a kind and would serve as a model to any couple.

She is also survived by her two children, a son Chuck Hurst of Muses Mills, Ky. and a daughter Sherri (Morris) Gardner of Beechburg, Ky. She leaves behind three granddaughters, Kristy (Tyler) McDowell, Alison Gardner, and Carrie Hurst.

She leaves behind 4 sisters: Connie (Bill) Denton, of Tollesboro, KY, Phyllis Garrison of Maysville, KY, Linda O'Dell of Vanceburg, KY, Joyce (John) Summerfield of Bigfork, Montana and one brother Milton (Phyllis) Stanfield of Ribolt, Ky. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Dwayne Hurst, and a brother Worth Stanfield, Jr.

Ruth and Charles owned and operated grocery businesses most of their married life. She enjoyed being out among the people.

Number one in her life however was God and doing his work. She accepted the call to preach in 1970 and has preached 2,593 messages. She is an ordained member of the Kentucky Christian Conference She has pastored 3 different churches over a period of 29 years: Beechburg Christian Church, Thacker's Chapel Christian Church, and Flemingsburg Christian Church. For the past 8 years she has served as Sunday School Superintendent of the Kentucky Christian Conference. She loved this job and all the churches dearly. One request that she made in the days before she died was to let her churches know she loved them.

This world won't be the same without this lady, but she is in a much better place now, a place she has strived to get to all of her life, even as a child.

Funeral services will be at 2PM Tuesday July 24, 2012 at Muses Mills Christian Church with Rev. Doug Reeves and Rev. Clifford Muse officiating. Burial will follow in Muses Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 9 PM Monday at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.
