Obituary

Virgil Thomas “Tommie” Reid, 66, of Mount Carmel, began farming the fields of Heaven on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Mason County on December 23, 1959, Tommie was the son of the late Hiram Virgil Reid and the late Eileen O’Cull Reid.

Tommie was a man whose life was rooted in faith, family, and farming. He was known for his hardworking hands, kind heart, and deep love for the land. Whether he was in the field at sunrise, caring for livestock, or working at the milk barn or tobacco patch long after dark, farming was never just a job to him — it was the life he loved.

Above all else, Tommie loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud Daddy, and a deeply loved Pappaw, brother and uncle. He taught his daughters and grandsons the value of hard work, honesty, and caring for one another.  Anything his grandsons were doing, Tommie was their biggest supporter. Some of life’s greatest lessons were learned beside him — in the fields, at the barn, on the tractor, and around our family table.

He especially loved Oliver tractors and could often be found talking about them, ripping the Detroit in the fields of Mount Carmel for all the neighbors to hear, collecting memorabilia, and proudly driving them. They were more than machinery to him; they were a connection to the life he built and the memories he cherished.

Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the way he could make people feel at home with a simple smile or story from the farm. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly, and the countless memories made through a lifetime of hard work and devotion to God, and his family.

Tommie is survived by the love of his life for 48 years, Annie Carpenter Reid; his three daughters, Kendra (Bubby) McIntyre, Kelley Jo (JR) Denton, Kathy (Ben) Ishmael; his seven grandsons, Levi & Archer Denton, Kaleb & Kenton McIntyre, and Karter, Kasen “Bubba”, and Dewey Ishmael. He is also survived by his two siblings, Tony (Patty) Reid and Garnetta Reid; along with many loving family members, neighbors, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Eileen and his father Virgil; his special niece, Shannon Reid; and his special nephew, Wesley Landsaw; along with other loved ones.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026, at Mount Carmel Community Church (formerly United Methodist) with Bro. Gary Carpenter and Bro. Jerry Eubanks officiating.

Tommie will be laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers include his seven grandsons and three sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers include the Amish school children he loved to take to and from school, and other family and friends.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at the church located at 7583 Mount Carmel Road, Flemingsburg, Kentucky 41041. The church will be open for the public at 9 a.m., Monday morning.

The family asks that Tommie be remembered not only for the work he did, but for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the life he lived so faithfully.

Boone-Nickell Funeral Home is caring for Tommie and the family.
