Velma Neomi Black Thomas, age 96, of Flemingsburg, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg.
Mrs. Thomas was born February 3, 1919, in Shinkle Ridge, Ohio, the daughter of the late John W. and Amanda Deatley Black.
Velma moved here at a very young age to Black Hollow in Lewis County. She married Forest on June 18, 1937. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. Velma was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Forest Lee Thomas in 1995; son, John Bill Thomas; and several siblings.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her son, Jackie (Phyllis) Thomas of Foxport; daughter, Joan (Ken) Chamblin of Maysville; 5 grandchildren, Diana (Anthony) Prater, Jimmy (Kim) Thomas, Lori Pollitt, Michael Mineer and Brad (Ashley) Mineer; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; 1 sister.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Brother Fred Garrett officiating. Burial to follow in Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Cory Prater, Taylor Pollitt, Jimmy Thomas, Michael Mineer, Brad Mineer and Cameron Mineer will serve as pallbearers with Anthony Prater, Ken Chamblin, and Gary Thomas to serve as honorary pallbearers.
