Obituary

Wayne Fannin, 77, of Ewing, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville.

Born in Hillsboro on October 26, 1946, his father was the late Wallace Fannin and his mother was the late Eva Royse Fannin.

Wayne was a 1964 Fleming County High graduate.  After being drafted by the Army and serving in the Vietnam War, he began a long civil service career.  He started as a file/typist at the Bluegrass Station in Avon and worked his way up to Civilian Commander at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, Ky.  After his retirement in 2001, he went to work for TSM Corporation for another 11 years where he was the Vice President of Training and Munitions and the Assistant Division Director.

Wayne was a man of strong faith, perseverance, and most of all…LOVE.  He came from a very humble beginning and let God lead his path.  He would have been the first to tell anyone, he would not have been given the opportunities and blessings he received without God.  He spent most of his life dedicated to the Lord and His scripture.  He taught Sunday School, led Bible Study, worked with the Youth, spoke as a Gideon, and led Church Services trying to share what he called "My Thoughts" on God's Word.  He always said teaching God's scripture taught him more than he had ever taught to the people who heard him.  Wayne began every morning reading his Bible and praying for God's guidance.  Most days, he followed that with sending an email or text to family members with what he felt God had put on his heart that day.  He was a remarkable and knowledgeable man with a great insight of the scripture.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Ishmael Fannin; his two daughters, Michele (Mike) Butler and Melanie Jones; his five grandchildren, Chelsea Kaenzig, Emma (Cody) Jones, Chris (Keelia) Jones, Todd (Suzanne) Butler, and Adam (Ashley) Butler; and his seven great grandchildren, Levi and Jocelyn Jones, Reese, Collin, Brooks, Adaline, and Aden Butler.  He is also survived by two of his siblings, Emerson (Lola) Fannin, and Carol (Harry) Gibb.

In addition to his mother Eva and his father Wallace, Wayne was preceded in death by four of his brothers, Claude Royse, Fred Royse, James "Junior" Royse, and Clarence Royse; and four of his sisters, Thelma Brodt, Alma Wilson, Jeannette Howard, and Evelyn Reed.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Boling and Bro. Clint Stricklen officiating.

Wayne will be laid to rest in Longview Cemetery in Bethel.

W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 will be performing military rites.
