Obituary

Wilbert Rice, 96, of Flemingsburg, passed away Monday evening October 14, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

He was born October 26, 1916 in Flemingsburg, KY to the late Edward and Mary Crump Rice.

Wilbert had worked at Curry - Adams Construction and was retired from the Doxol plant where he had been manager in Flemingsburg. Wilbert proudly served his country during WWII as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army, he was stationed in Europe and was a in charge of a supply chain.

Wilbert was the oldest living member of the Strawberry United Methodist Church. He was a Mason for 50 years, attaining the 33rd Degree at the Acacia 24 lodge in Maysville, KY were he was the Royal Arch. He was a member of the Ambassadors Club in Maysville, and Jones Green American Legion Post 279.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Samuel Ryan Mark Rice; great grandson JJ Mark IV; brothers John Harvey, Gene, Joe & James Rice; sisters Rebecca Matthews, Mary Zella Taylor, Carrie Rice, Myrtle Peters & Amy McKee.



Survivors include his son JJ Mark Jr. of Dayton, OH

Grandchildren: Margo Mark & Jarue (Amanda) Mark III

Great Grandchildren: Jaxson, Maxwell & Braxton Mark

Sisters: Bessie Warner & Margaret Gibbs

Several special nieces and nephews who helped care for Wilbert

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday October 18, 2013 at Strawberry United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Williams & Rev. Dane Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Fleming County Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 AM Friday at the church. Masonic rites will be at 10:45 AM. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834.

Chan Warner, Eugene Rice, Gilbert Warner, John Kenneth Sr., Leonard Rice, Ronnie Gibbs & Steven Warner will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Lewis, Gary Wesley Rice, Jimmy Prather, John French, Leroy Talbert, Pete Nichols & Sam Prather

The family would thank the staff at the Lexington VA Medical Center for their compassionate care
