David Lee Obituary

Our father, Samuel David Lee, stepped into Heaven on Saturday, March 19, 2022; seven weeks shy of his 80th birthday. He is now where he always dreamed of being.

Born in Fleming County on May 4, 1942, he was a son to the late Robert Samuel Lee and the late Edna Opal James.

David worked for 28 years with Autozone.   Automobiles were in his blood. Beyond a short time of working with a steel fabrication company, he spent nearly 65 years working in and around the automobile industry, which included Standard Oil, Sohio, U-Haul, and his own company - David’s Automotive.

On Father’s Day 1993, David surrendered his heart and life to Jesus while attending Decatur Baptist Church with his family.  His life was never the same.  As he aged in years, he also grew in the Lord.  David had the heart to help his fellow man.  He loved people and wanted to make them feel valued, loved, and as though they mattered to him.  If he saw someone in need and it was within his power to help, he did.

David is survived by his former wife, Lora Fay Lee; their two children, Ovan Michael David Lee and Alisha Mae DeHart (Nathon Lewis);  and his two granddaughters, Emily Brooke Maggard and Serenity Jade Lewis.

David is also survived by his former wife, Linda Joe Shankland Peckham; their two children, Karen Renee Shaddix and Sherry Lynn Pentecost; his daughter-in-law, PJ Lee; his three grandchildren, Breanna Renee Shaddix, Ashley Elaine Claborn (Will), and Jensen Lee; and his two great-grandchildren, Margaret Elaine “Maisie” Afton Claborn and Charlotte Kathryn “Lottie Kate” Marlowe Claborn.

David is survived by five of his siblings, Thelma Jean Rigdon, Jenny Carol Newsom (Sam), Joyce Ann Isaacs, Susie Mae Dotson, and Linda Kay Vanhoose (Phil); along with many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Those of us remaining will miss him dearly but we are rejoicing in the incredible family reunion that is taking place.  His family meant everything to him. He left an indelible impact on each life he touched.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Edward Lee; his grandson, Zander Kade Lewis; his stepmother, Dorothy Marie Foul; three of his siblings, Douglas Faye Lee, Edna Marie Rigdon, and Corey Evelyn Lee; and a nephew, Mike Rigdon.  He was also preceded by two sons-in-law, Jeffery Shaddix and Bracey Pentecost; sister-in-law, Karen Lee Shankland, two brothers-in-law, Delbert Rigdon, and Joe Dotson; and  in-laws, Betty McKee, Joe Frank, and Clarine Shankland.

The funeral service will be held at the Fleming County Cemetery Pavilion at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022, with Bro. Tom Redmon officiating.

Pallbearers include Ashley Rigdon, John Little, Larry Caudill, Nathan Lewis, and Will Isaacs. Honorary Pallbearers include Jeromy Staggs, Johnny King, Luke Redmond, Mike James, and Ovan Michael David Lee.
