Dorothy Maddox Bower, 91, of Fairfax, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 25, 2020, after a short illness. She was a resident of Sunrise at George Mason senior living facility in Fairfax.
Born in Dalesburg, KY on April 21, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William A. Maddox and the late Nellie Harn Maddox.
Dorothy spent her life as an employee of the Fairfax County government. She was a member of the Elizaville Christian Church.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Julie (Michael) Ashley of Fairfax, VA; her first cousin, Norman (Sandra) Harn of Hillsboro; and her dear friend, Judith Simmons of Fairfax.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gorden Bower; and her siblings, Irene Phillips, Helen Swart, Martha Maddox, Viola Fields, Elmer Maddox, William A. Maddox, Jr., and her twin brother, Donald Maddox (missing in action in Korea).
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her beloved son, John Gary Bower on June 3, 2007. He was born on December 11, 1949, an only child to Dorothy and Gorden. He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Michael) Ashley.
Dorothy and her son will be laid to rest together on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Elizaville Cemetery.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., with Bro. Norman Harn officiating.
